The project is focused on an assessment of ecosystem services provided by urban ecosystems. The main objective is to identify basic types of ecosystems and their services which occur in cities and their surroundings, and to analyse their relationships with human wellbeing and quality of life of urban population. To determine the capacity of urban systems to provide ecosystem services we use a methodological concept of ecosystem services based on the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (2005). The application of this approach in purely urban environment in the Czech Republic is completely unique and innovative, and will contribute to a more efficient work of local governance especially in terms of local planning, sustainable development of the society and environment.
